Biography of Gerhard Friedrich Müller

This article contains a concise biographical timeline for Gerhard Friedrich Müller. Today, he is considered the Father of Ethnography. He was also one of the first people to create a complete account of Russian history.

1705 – He is born in Herford, Germany.

1725 – He is invited to St. Petersburg to cofound the Imperial Academy of Sciences.

1733-1743 – He participates in the Second Kamchatka Expedition. After, he becomes the historiographer to the Russian Empire.

1761 – He is elected as a foreign member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.

1766 – He is appointed to “keeper of the national archives” for the Russian Empire.

1783 – He dies in Moscow.
