Who is Hippocrates of Kos?

Hippocrates of Kos is also known as Hippocrates II. He was a Greek physician who is commonly believed to have lived from 460 BC to 370 BC. He is commonly recognized as the “Father of Medicine”. Soranus of Ephesus is reported to be the first biographer of Hippocrates. Soranus is primary source for Hippocrates. Other biographies are attributed to the 10th century Suda and the 12th century poet John Tzetzes.

Hippocrates’ medical works have been dated to the early 4th century BC.

The collection was first published in a Latin translation in Rome by Fabio Calvo in 1525. The Greek appeared in 1526 at Venice.
