Demetrius Chalcondyles was a Greek Renaissance humanist who taught “Greek and of Platonic philosophy”. He was born in 1424 and died in 1511. He was the first person to print the texts of the ancients Homer and Isocrates.

The current biographical timeline for Demetrius Chalcondyles is as follows;
1424 – Born in Athens, Greece
1447 – he goes to Italy
1449 – he arrives in Rome and Cardinal Bessarion becomes his patron
1450 – he is teaching in Perugia
1463 – he is made professor at Padua
1463 – he calls on Venice and “all of the Latins” to aid the Greeks against the Ottomans
1479 – he is summoned to Florence by Lorenzo de’ Medici
1484 – he gets married at the age of 61 and eventually fathers 10 children
1488 – he prints the first printed editions of Homer (Florence)
1492 – he moves to Milan on invitation by Ludovico Sforza
1493 – he prints the first printed editions of Isocrates (Milan)
1499 – he prints the first printed editions of the Byzantine Suda lexicon
1511 – Dies in Milan, Italy
