Antoine Isaac Silvestre de Sacy was a french nobleman, linguist, and orientalist. He was the first Frenchman who attempted to read the Rosetta Stone. A concise account of his life events is as follows;

Sept. 21, 1758 – Antoine Isaac Silvestre de Sacy is born in Paris

1785 – Mémoire sur l’histoire des Arabes avant Mahomet published

1792 – He is a member of the Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres

1793 – Mémoires sur diverses antiquités de la Perse, et sur les médailles des rois de la dynastie des Sassanides published

1795 – He becomes professor at the School of Oriental Languages

1806 – He becomes professor at the Collège de France

1810 – Grammaire arabe, parts 1–2 published (Arabic grammar)

1814 – He is made into a baron

1816 – He is the publisher of the Journal des Savants

1821 – He founds Société Asiatique and becomes president

1822 – He is the publisher of the Journal Asiatique

1823 – He becomes director of the Collège de France

1824 – He becomes director of the School of Oriental Languages

1826-27 – Chrestomathie arabe, 2nd ed., vols. 1–3 published (Arab Chrestomathy)

1833 – He is named secretary of the Académie des Inscriptions er Belles-Lettres for life

1838 – Exposé de la religion des druses, vols. 1–2 published (Exposure of the Druse religion)
