"Seeking the Truth about Chronology Today"
I’ve been thinking for a few years now about starting a call-in show dedicated to history. I’ve been keeping my eye out for shows like this and I’m not aware of any. This article contains my ideas for it.
History On Air is for people who want to learn more about how historical investigations can be conducted, as well as for people who want to have their own ideas about history explored.
Eventually I do want to have guest-hosts on, but I think at least the first few episodes will be just me hosting. For guest-hosts, I’ll be looking to have people join me who have some type of background in historical investigation.
Callers
There are two types of callers that can call in:
1 – Callers who call in to ask a question about history or related topics.
These callers will ask their question and the host/s will respond and then the two of them can have a discussion about the question and the response.
2 – Callers who call in to explore a single-sentence statement about history or related topics.
These callers will be asked to give their statement in a single sentence and then that sentence will be explored.
Etiquette
The hosts are not to name-call the callers or shame anyone for not knowing something. Preferably, callers will show the same respect to the hosts. Ultimately, hosts will reserve the ability to drop any call at anytime.
Show-Name
I’ve thought about many different names for the show. I like History On Air the best but some other considerations I’ve had are: The Time Crunch; The Hourglass; or The Sundial (dial in to The Sundial).
There is a website title historyonair.com but it looks like it was only active for part of the month of April 2020. The website has a Facebook page titled “History on Air”. This page was created on 2 Feb. 2011 and has posts through 28 April 2015.
There’s a Facebook page titled “Days Gone By: History On Air”, but it looks like it was only active during February, March, and April 2018.
