Biography of Pierre Louÿs

Pierre Louÿs (1870-1925) was a French poet and writer, most renowned for lesbian and classical themes in some of his writings. He has been exposed for committing literary falsification in his Songs of the Poetess Bilitis.

1870 – He is born in Ghent, Belgium.

1890s – He becomes a friend of Oscar Wilde.

1891 – He helps initiate a literary review, La Conque.

1894 – He publishes his mystification entitled Songs of the Poetess Bilitis.

1916 – He publishes Death Watch.

1925 – He dies in Paris, France.
