The 88 Constellations of the IAU

The International Astronomical Union designated 88 constellations in the 20th century. Eugène Joseph Delporte (1882-1955) designated the boundaries so that each part of the sky belongs to a constellation.

The 88 constellations depict 42 animals, 29 inanimate objects and 17 humans or mythological characters.
