until the 1940s – He publishes musicological works.
1953 – He entitles his first study on magic Orpheus the Theologian and Renaissance Platonists and publishes it. He is elected a Senior Research Fellow at Oxford.
1958 – He publishes his best known work, Spiritual and Demonic Magic: From Ficino to Campanella.
1964 – He publishes The Decline of Hell.
1972 – He publishes The Ancient Theology.
1975-1981 – He holds the Warburg’s Chair in the History of the Classical Tradition.
1981 – He publishes Unclean Spirits: Possession and Exorcism in France and England in the Late Sixteenth and Early Seventeenth Centuries. He also retires.
1985 – He dies.
